I departed on July 31 for Kaohsiung Taiwan to teach English for 11 months on a Fulbright scholarship. I have decided to start a blog so that if you want to read about what I am doing you can! I also plan to post pictures here as well. I will try an update as often as possible.
Taiwan, not to be confused with Thailand, is
an island off the southeast coast of China.
The Island of Taiwan (above) has its biggest city (Taipei) in the north.
I am in the second biggest city Kaohsiung in the south.
The city of Kaohsiung is broken into districts
I live in the Lingya District, which appears in bright red on the map.

Hi!
Your trip to the place where you did some pottery has caught my fancy. Is it in Kaoshiung? I’m very interested in pottery and was thinking of signing up for a short course for a week in August while my husband is there to work.Could you kindly give me the address as I have been trawling the internet for pottery places and courses that I can visit and creating something out of clay. Thank you very much if you could help me out here. Looking forward to your email! Cheers!

I did the pottery at a pottery studio in Meinong, which is maybe 45 minutes outside of Kaohsiung City, in Kaohsiung County.
I found some info at these websites:

You can also look into Yingge, which is accessible from Taipei. Yingge has a really nice ceramics museum, DIY ceramics, and lots of shopping (tea sets, bowls, etc.) It is a half hour (commuter) train ride from Taipei.
I have been to both. I would suggest going to Yingge for a straight forward ceramics experience and Meinong for a more Hakka culture/ceramics experience.
Yingge is easier to find information on if you do a google search. Here is a place to start:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yingge,_Taipei
Best if Luck!
